- Title: MCP AmeriCorps/VISTA Mentor Support Specialist
Contact Me: lisam@giin.org; 509.232.1136
What do I do: I am an AmeriCorps/Vista member and I am primarily a recruiter, I help facilitate finding Mentors and Children of Incarcerated Parents for our program. I also train new Mentors that sign up with our program.
Where am I most likely to be seen: I would most likely be seen in many places. I am out in the community A LOT! I will conduct home visits to do Mentee interviews and have the caregiver fill out an application for their child. Once I have applications filled out, I will spend time in the office putting file folders together and keep up with inputting notes in the database, checking in on the Mentors and Mentee visits as well and documenting how well it is going. Monthly, I will receive end of month reports that I am responsible for and passing on to my supervisor. I visit the Libby Teen Center twice a week to recruit and currently I am working on my Community Action Project that is required by Vista members. I am teaching the young women over there how to crochet scarves and we will distribute them to the homeless in our community. In addition to that, I set up for Service fairs at the colleges and Universities and we recruit Mentors that way. Any way that I can share our program, I am there, whether it be word of mouth or putting up flyer.
